Beaches & Parks

Driftwood Beach
A great day stop, Driftwood Beach is just a hop, skip, and a jump off the ICW and is a favorite spot among locals. Located on the northern end of Jekyll Island the beach is strewn with large pieces of driftwood giving the beach its name and giving you some great photo ops! While you relax on the beach, enjoy viewing the St. Simmons Island Lighthouse across the sound, watching one of the large car transport ships transiting the nearby channel, or the horses being ridden on the beach.

During season, turtle nests dot the beach. Although the beach makes for a great day stop, it is generally considered too rolly for an overnight stay. The current is also very strong so it is not recommended that you try to swim to shore from your boat.

Turn east in St. Simmons Sound and anchor where ever you are comfortable. The beach drops off quickly so you can anchor fairly close to shore but be careful of swimmers and fishing lines.
